This class on flower and garden photography centered on Longwood Gardens gave me several new perspectives on how to take photographs. Irene has a wealth of knowledge and experience, which helped me improve composition and see images in a new way. I came away from the class with a completely new appreciation for taking photos of flowers and garden scenes. Irene has a very helpful teaching style.
This was my 3rd photo workshop with you and, as in the first two experiences, I was not disappointed. You are an excellent workshop leader and I always come away from your workshops knowing more about the technical and creative skills of photography and I’m always happy with the photo opportunities you presented and the results I have achieved. I had the good fortune to participate in Irene’s Spring 2022 Chincoteague Photo Workshop. Essential to the success of any workshop is for the leader to be proficient not only in the technical aspect of photography, but also have complete command of the subject matter and knowledge of the geographical area. I think you hit another home run with the emphasis on a picture within a picture. Too often we include too much in our frame, when the unusual or interesting bits are worthy of closer scrutiny and enjoyment. I’m sure that message came through to the audience, with your numerous illustrations of the principle on screen. Thanks again for judging for NBCC – you undertook a long drive and a tough subject, and came through in spectacular fashion!

You teach how to home in on the important parts of the scene. You help develop a photographer’s eye and focus on the important details. You teach how to work the subject to take advantage of the best light and shoot at the decisive moment. After over twenty years of taking your courses, there is always more to see and learn from you. I am always developing new insights and improving my photographic skills.
The photo tour to Argentina and Chile with Irene was well planned with the right amount of time spent at the various locations that provided a good mix of wildlife and scenic photo opportunities. That combined with the small group of photographers made for a most enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Outer Banks Fall 2023 Photo Workshop
I found the days there the most educational and informative workshop environment of my career. The leadership was strong and the venues for shoots were super. Our host was so knowledgeable and helpful. But she would advise and answer questions and then allow us to do our own studies and testing and experimentation. It was just perfect for how I learn and what I needed. Help, but no backseat driving.
