In Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge: An Ecological Treasure, Irene Hinke-Sacilotto was able to do a nearly impossible task-that of capturing on film the pure natural beauty of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Irene's photographs portray the refuge in all its moods, from the tranquility of a pristine coastline to the magnificence of our nation's wild creatures.

With large high quality images and limited but easy to understand text, I designed the book to be suitable for all ages. In it I describe the dynamics of barrier islands, how they naturally shift and change shape with storms, winds, waves and rising sea level. I introduce readers to the various habitats on the island and to the animals that live there. In addition, I cover the role that wildlife refuges play in protecting species, including those that are endangered or threatened.
