Do you own a digital camera and wonder why your images fail to live up to your expectations? Do you always use automatic settings because you don't understand menu selections and terms such as ISO, aperture priority, white balance, spot metering, histogram, and file compression? Is your camera manual more confusing than helpful? If you answer yes to these questions, then this class is for you.

During this week-long program with Maine Media Workshops in Rockport Maine, I will provide you with insight into digital camera operation and digital imaging. Terms such as resolution, pixel, white-balance, ISO, noise, histogram, and exposure compensation will become familiar and you will gain an appreciation for various memory media, file formats, and menu selections... You will learn guidelines for sizing images for web use, e-mail transmissions, and printing along with some basic image processing and manipulation techniques. Fundamental photographic principles such as metering, exposure, lens and filter selection, lighting, perspective, and composition will be covered. .PowerPoint presentations, portfolio reviews, demonstrations, field exercises, and critiques will help you evolve into a more confident, creative, and skilled photographer. In addition to group activities, I will provide one-on-one personalized instruction specific to your camera. Field trips to local attractions and assignments will provide you with opportunities to practice skills and techniques discussed in class. Photo sessions will be followed by a group discussion of images recently taken by the class.

Photo subjects abound along this portion of the Maine Coast and include lighthouses, scenic overlooks, rocky coastline, quaint harbors, fishing boats, historic buildings, seals and other wildlife. The exact itinerary will be customized in accordance with the physical capability of participants, the weather, safety, and group preferences. Handouts will be provided.
