Classroom: This program is designed to sharpen participant digital photography skills and creativity. Basic concepts and terms will be reviewed including resolution, file formats, white-balance, ISO, histograms, and meta data. Also covered will be photographic principles--exposure, depth of field, lighting, perspective, and composition. Classroom discussions will be reinforced with exercises and practical experience in the field at Longwood Gardens. Following the field trip, the photos from the outing will be discussed and critiqued in class. Questions are encouraged.

Field: Longwood Gardens Located in Kennett Square PA, approximately 1.5 hours from Abingdon, Longwood Gardens encompasses 1,050 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows along with an indoor conservatory that shelters more than 5,500 types of plants. While exploring the gardens, students will have the opportunity to photograph a variety of subjects including indoor and outdoor flower gardens, reflecting pools, fountains, bell tower, and topiary displays. In October photo there is a chrysanthemum festival and many other flowering plants are on display including bird of paradise, roses, cactus, orchids, bromeliads, and much more. While in the field, Irene Hinke-Sacilotto, the instructor, will spend time with each person, addressing individual needs and skill level.

The entrance fee to the gardens and transportation is the responsibility of the student.
